Cooking is ancient…

Cooking a meal and plating it is a form of communication, of expressing love and care for someone. How food is arranged in its serving dishes is important. In essence it is the same as arranging flowers or painting a picture: one uses food to create an artistic design, combining colours and shapes like an artist.

We are emotional creatures who enjoy being charmed by food that is nourishing and cooked with love as well as beautiful objects that display it.

An object such as a vessel to hold and serve food can embody ideas and emotions that can add sparkles of beauty and appreciation to our everyday lives. Developing a tableware series, is a way for me to unite the nourishing and loving aspect of eating with the beauty of crafted hand-made plates and vessels – guided and inspired by natural materials.

Our relationship with soil is our connection to Earth itself. Without soil, there is no us.

By using wild soil, wood ash and foraged stones, I invite us all to be more aware of the beauty of the natural world encouraging a more sustainable, harmonious relationship with the Earth.

Behind each of these plates there exists a certain climate, soil type and quality, temperature range, as well as other physical conditions. It is this that adds flavour and colour to these pieces, being products of multiple natural aspects.
